DMZ motorcycle tour Dong Ha (1D)

In the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel/train station in Dong Ha. We will first go to Mine Action Visitor Center - a museum-like display of ERW (Explosive Remnants of War) or UXO (Unexploded Ordinance). The artifacts here are collected from around the DMZ area in Quang Tri province, Quang Binh province and Thua Thien Hue province.

We then go to Dong Ha airfield hangar - the last remaining of the Dong Ha combat base where the 3rd US Marine Division's headquarter stationed.

Keep going North to Freedom bridge or Hien Luong bridge crossing the Ben Hai river at 17th parallel where you will walk across the old DMZ demarcation line from South to North. Here you can take a look at Memorial of National Aspiration for Unification, DMZ museum, UN building, Frontline Flagpole and memorial of NVA Border Police.

Continue East bound towards the coast to see Vinh Moc tunnel - an underground village for 350 villagers to live during the bombing raids of the US Air Force, Marine and Navy from many operations of anti-infiltration.

Take a drive along coastal road to Cua Tung beach, Cua Viet beach for a lunch break with seafood, peanuts, tapioca dumplings (banh loc), ...

Then we will keep continuing to Quang Tri citadel which is well-known for its 81-day battle between North and South Vietnam (Second battle of Quang Tri from June 28 to September 16). This battle is compared to the battle of Shiloh from American Civil War. Almost 20.000 soldiers Killed In Action are still lying somewhere beneath the ground inside the 4-square km of Quang Tri citadel built in 1824 under Emperor Minh Mang. Inside the citadel, there is only one common grave for all of the K.I.A. You can take a look at the museum and put some incense praying for the soldiers from both sides to go to heaven.

Drive all the back to Dong Ha. Tour ends.

Note: La Vang cathedral - a pilgrimage site for the Catholic in Vietnam- and memorial house of Le Duan - true leader of Vietnam after Ho Chi Minh died in 1969, a native-born from Quang Tri riverbank of Thach Han - are bonus stops if you have an early request before the tour starts.
