Day 1: Hue - Hamburger Hill - A Shau valley - Lao Bao border town
Morning pick up from hotel in Hue going to Birmingham Firebase, a supporting base during Operation Apache Snow in 1969-1970. On the way to A Luoi town, you will have a look at some South Vietnam Army firebases along the road to include Checkmate, Bastogne, ... Keep going to A Shau valley along Highway 547 (now highway 49). Then we visit A Shau special forces camp close to Laos border where you can see a lot of bomb craters from B52 aircraft. A Shau valley is the first and the most effected area by Agent Orange and is now being cleared by NGOs. A Shau Special Forces Camp was overrun by NVA in 1966 and famous for the risky rescue of Air Force Major Bernard Fisher, the first airman who earned the Medal of Honor. We will have a brief stop at a museum in A Luoi town then continue on to Hamburger Hill, a 937-m peak where the infamous battle took place in May 1969. Lunch at A Luoi downtown. We will trek to Hamburger Hill to see Helicopter Crash Site, NVA foxholes, Hamburger Hill Memorial, NVA tunnel, ... We then head straight to Lang Vei Special Forces camp - the first battle ever where NVA used tanks on battlefields, enroute photo stops at Bru people village, Dakrong bridge and Ho Chi Minh trail.

Day 2: Lao Bao border town - Full DMZ - Vinh Moc tunnel - Hue
8:30 we depart for Khe Sanh Marine combat base where a 77-day-siege battle took place during 1968 Tet offensive. This battle is compared to the battle of Dien Bien Phu - a defeat for the French. We then continue to Rockpile - an observation post and Camp Carroll - an artillery base. Then we keep going to Highway 9 national cemetery where buries 10.000 NVA and VC died along Highway 9, mostly due to operation Lam Son 719 (code name interpreted from 1971 on highway 9). We will have lunch in Dong Ha city before heading North on Highway 1 to visit Hien Luong bridge (Freedom bridge, Peace bridge) crossing Ben Hai river at 17th parallel. This area was bombarded heavily during operation Rolling Thunder by the Air Force. Last stop before heading back to hotel in Hue is Vinh Moc tunnel, one of the tunnel of underground village in Vinh Linh district of Quang Tri province where sheltered more than 300 villagers living here to defend Con Co island.
