Dong Hoi Phong Nha Paradise cave DMZ Hamburger Hill Hue
Day 1: Dong Hoi - Phong Nha cave - Paradise cave - Dong Hoi
Pick up from Dong Hoi (hotel, airport, railway station) to go to Phong Nha town. Take a boat cruise to visit Phong Nha cave - the unique underground river cave in Phong Nha - Ke Bang national park with more than 300 caves. Have lunch at Phong Nha. Have a 30 mins ride to Paradise cave to visit this 31-km beautiful cave with spectacular stalactites and stalagmites (You can exchange Phong Nha cave, Paradise cave for Commander Cave or Botanical Garden). Back to Dong Hoi city overnight.
Day 2: Dong Hoi - Vinh Moc tunnel - Full DMZ - Lao Bao border town
Pickup from your hotel driving southward along Highway 1 to visit fist stop at Vinh Moc tunnel - a refuge for the local villagers during the US bombing. Second stop would be DMZ Freedom Bridge (Hien Luong bridge) crossing Ben Hai river at 17th parallel. 3rd stop will be Truong Son national cemetery where more than 10.000 NVA who served along the legendary Ho Chi Minh trail rest in peace. 4th stop will be a Bomb House (house made from bombs with a personal collection of war remnants). We will have lunch somewhere convenient on the way. After lunch, heading West along highway 9 to visit Camp Carroll - US and ARVN artillery base, the Rockpile - US observation post and artillery firebase, Khe Sanh combat base - a major US Marine base during Vietnam war with 6000 US troops stationed and well-known for its 77-day siege during 1968 Tet Offensive. Last stop will be Lang Vei Special Forces Camp which was overrun in February 1968. Overnight in Khe Sanh town.
Day 3: Lao Bao border town - A Shau valley - Hamburger HIll - Hue
Driving back along Highway 9, turn right to Highway 14 or Ho Chi Minh highway to A Shau valley. Many photo opportunities along the way upon request (Montagnards stilt house, rice fields, ravine, river, water buffalo, cows, ...) We will be driving past many sites of many operations during the Vietnam war (unaccessible firebase Ripcord, border crossing between Vietnam and Laos, ...) before reaching Hamburger Hill to start trekking to hill top. It's quite strenuous trek so please make sure you're fit to trek to this 937m peak. On the way we can have a quick look at Abia victory museum (if time permits). Back to A Luoi town for lunch. Driving along Ashau valley to enjoy the valley of death now turned into valley of love (A Shau valley is considered the most affected area of Agent Orange so if you want to visit an Agent Orange victim, we can make it happen for you (with extra cost). Back to car driving along Highway 49 to Hue. Tour ends.
