Morning pick up from hotel in Hue going to Birmingham Firebase, a 101st Airborne Division Fire Support Base during Operation Apache Snow in 1969-1970. On the way to A Luoi town, you will have a look at some South Vietnam Army firebases along the road to include Checkmate, Bastogne, … Keep going to A Shau valley along Highway 547 (now highway 49).
We will pay a visit to A Shau Special Forces Camp immediately close to Laos border where you can see a lot of bomb craters from B52 bomber aircraft. A Shau valley is the first and the most effected area by Agent Orange and is now being cleared by many NGOs (Non-Government Organisations). A Shau Special Forces Camp was overrun by the NVA in 1966 and it's famous for the risky rescue of Air Force Major Bernard Fisher, the first airman who earned the Medal of Honor.

We will have a brief stop at a museum in A Luoi town for a lunch break and then keep continuing onto Dong Abia (the montagnard's version for Hamburger Hill), a 937-m peak where the infamous battle took place in May 1969. Start trekking to Hamburger Hill to see Helicopter Crash Site, NVA foxholes, Hamburger Hill Memorial, NVA tunnel, ... Take a downhill ride back to A Luoi town, time for great photo shots of care-free water buffalos, elderly women bending down on rice fields, layers of mountain range far in the distant hidden behind the clouds, green acacia forest, corn field, ... Drive along the Ho Chi Minh trail and highway 49 back to your hotel in Hue city. Tour ends.
